Stop debt collector calls with the TeleZapper

by Sam Glover on August 14, 2008

If you are getting phone calls from a debt collector, you should tell them, in writing, that you do not want them calling you. If that does not work, and just want them to stop, the TeleZapper should do the trick.

Most collection agencies use automatic—also called predictive—dialers. In other words, the collector sits at a computer terminal and the computer dials phone numbers for them. When someone picks up, the collector gets on the phone.

The TeleZapper detects when a call comes from an auto dialer and sends back a signal that the phone number has been disconnected. Most debt collectors (and telemarketers) will take your number off their call list.

This does not stop collection, but it may give you some relief from abusive calling. If you get to this point, you should also contact a consumer rights lawyer to see if you have other remedies under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If you are in Minnesota, contact The Glover Law Firm, LLC, for a free case evaluation. In any other state, you can find a consumer rights lawyer using the National Association of Consumer Advocates lawyer database.
