Sign up for your TransUnion class action settlement benefits

While we are on the subject of keeping track of your credit score, as a result of a bunch of class action lawsuits against TransUnion, virtually anyone who has had a credit card since 1987 can select from several settlement options, including up to nine months of enhanced credit monitoring.
First, the settlement applies to “[a]ll consumers who had an open credit account or an open line of credit from a credit grantor located in the United States at any time during the period January 1, 1987 to” May 28, 2008.
So pretty much anyone with a credit card.
There are five options:
- Six months of credit monitoring;
- Potential cash payment (if available)
- Six months of credit monitoring and a potential cash payment (if available)
- Nine months of enhanced credit monitoring
- Sue TransUnion yourself
Option three is just option one plus option two. I can’t imagine why someone would go for one or two, since option three gets you six months of unlimited access to your credit score, with credit monitoring plus a potential cash payout.
Alternatively, if you just want a lot of credit monitoring, option four will get you a swath of other credit monitoring options, including insurance scores and TransUnion’s mortgage simulator service.
If you think you might want to take option five, and sue TransUnion yourself, talk to a consumer lawyer in your area right away.
To sign up, go to the In re Trans Union Corporation Privacy Litigation website and register for benefits.

Hmmm…another credit card settlement case, heh?
[I'm assuming this one is different from the CCF settlement case from late last year, of which I have not yet received my payment.]
This one has many more options, which leads me to believe that credit card litigation is becoming more complex(or maybe multi-faceted.]
Thanks for the heads-up. :)
I somehow think this is just another scam to get our personal information! I for one am not falling for it although I will research this issue for it’s authenticity.
Since TransUnion already has all your (financial) personal information, I think the risk is fairly low.
I have had credit cards and loans since married in 1972 till present.
Have no idea if allowed in this but never check credit reports till lately
Like most every class-action lawsuit, this one is designed to make the lawyers rich with little pay-off to the “injured” parties. The settlement sounds more like a marketing scheme by Trans Union - I’m wary of signing up for their settlement and then having it automatically ding my credit card if I don’t proactively cancel after the free period is up. I will sign up and see if/when they ask for a credit card authorization……
I think it’s a scam too. There are no real people to talk to or send mail. I agree that it’s for the attorneys to ride on the backs of the injured party. Since the usery’s law was repealed (1980), we are all fair game legally. There is nothing LEGALLY you can do when scammed. Small claims court is a great example of wasted time and effort!! Don’t act to quickly on anything out here….it’s best not to even accept or join in, I think it’s a way of dividing people for some purpose. That purpose could not possibly be to your benefit!! If you are very smart just say ” HELL NO ” !!
It ispretty bad when a consumer is not notified of such as this suit until something goes wrong. I did not know about the suit until about a week ago when I ordered a copy of my credit report. The report included a list of people and companies that were sent information about my which were neither requested nor authorised by me. One report was sent to a person who tried to buy a Honda motorcycle in my name. That could be funny, but I am totally disabled. Then, close to the end of the report there is a “by the way , I thought I might mention that there is a law suit/settlement pending.” Funny? I don’t think so. I could loose out because of a failure to communicate. Whose responsibility is it to inform the public about matters such as these?? Am I supposed to contact all the companies I have done business with and aask “are you being sued for anything?” Does anyone have an answer to my delima?
