Quick thoughts - superstars Barack Obama and Elizabeth Warren collide, plus new Democratic hypocrisy

Alright, maybe Elizabeth Warren isn’t a superstar to everyone. But she is the unequivocal rock star of the consumer movement. So it is totally appropriate that she’s now palling around with the most rockin’ politician since JFK. She appeared with Senator Obama Wednesday in Chicago to discuss credit cards, and I can only imagine the geeky coolness that emanated from the room with the two of them in it. According to the Chicago Sun Times, “Warren praised Obama’s leadership on consumer issues, saying, I’ll never forget the first … words he said to me: He said predatory lending is killing America’s families.” Obama was also was the first presidential candidate to endorse the AFFIL Principles.

In other political news, Senate Democrats seem to be using an online petition to shame Republicans for failing to help people in foreclosure. Which is strange, since ten Democratic Senators voted to drop the only provision in the so-called “Foreclosure Prevention Act” which would have really helped people in foreclosure (namely modifying foreclosures in bankruptcy). Hypocrisy, anyone? I suspect this petition is a good way to collect names and beef up the Democratic donor base. But it’s ridiculous to pretend that the Dems are all working to stop foreclosures. Cause guess what, they’re not.

Assuming that every member of a political party believes exactly the same thing about every issue demonstrates intellectual laziness. That a handful of democrats voted to remove a specific provision ignores the fact that most didn’t.

There’s no hypocrisy there– just a blog editor taking the easy way out to ‘punch up’ an article.
