Call an attorney already

National Association of Consumer Advocates

People will sprain their ankle at the supermarket and call an attorney before they leave the store, but will endure months of harassment by a debt collector and never call an attorney who can help stop the harassment and get compensation for the resulting emotional harm.

Consumer protection laws are fee-shifting laws, which mean that consumer attorneys can take a case on contingency, and most will not charge a penny unless they recover money. Nick and I are happy to talk to consumers from Minnesota (and so will Chris in October, when he gets his license), and the National Association of Consumer Advocates has a database of its members in every state.

If you are suffering harassment by a debt collector, discrimination by a landlord or property manager, fraud by a car dealer or you are dealing with any other consumer problem, find an attorney who can help. It never hurts to call or e-mail.
