NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

Among all the other things on my plate, I plan to participate in NaNoWriMo, a one-month novel writing marathon. Participants must write a novel (defined broadly as “a lengthy work of fiction”) of 50,000 words or more entirely during the month of November, National Novel Writing Month. Winners (those who finish) get a nice certificate.

I’m posting here in part due to the advice I got in my welcome e-mail:

Tell everyone you know that you’re writing a novel in November. This will pay big dividends in Week Two, when the only thing keeping you from quitting is the fear of looking pathetic in front of all the people who’ve had to hear about your novel for the past month. Seriously. Email them now about your awesome new book. The looming specter of personal humiliation is a very reliable muse.

So in order to maximize my risk of personal humiliation, I’m posting this for any and all to read. Like most, I always wanted to write a novel one day, and I figure tomorrow is one day, so off I go. If my posting frequency falls off, you know why.

Sign up to write a novel at NaNoWriMo and join me.
