Where to find help and an attorney

I am often contacted by non-Minnesota residents with questions about consumer law. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of direct help I can give to non-Minnesota residents, since I am only licensed to practice law in Minnesota. When it comes to national laws like the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or the Fair Housing Act, I can give information and discuss the federal law, but that is about it.

If you have a question about a consumer law matter and you are in Minnesota, e-mail, IM, or call me. I will do my best to answer your questions or steer you to an attorney who can. If you live outside of Minnesota, please find a lawyer in your state. The best place to start is the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA), which has a searchable database of consumer lawyers. Next best is your state or local bar association. Most bar associations keep lists of their members and referral lists of attorneys taking cases.

It may take a few calls before you find an attorney who can answer your questions, but it will be worth it!
