Mary Pawlenty leaves National Arbitration Forums after one month on the job

Perhaps National Arbitration Forum really is made up of “godless bloodsuckers.” I don’t know, but apparently Mary Pawlenty, previously a Dakota County judge, couldn’t stand to work for NAF as general counsel. That’s pure speculation on my part, of course, but if you look at the chorus of criticism of NAF, it is easy to see why anyone might have a hard time getting along there. For example:

From Public Justice staff attorney Paul Bland:

“The National Arbitration Forum is widely viewed as having a marked pre-disposition in favor of lenders and against consumers and borrowers.”

From retired West Virginia judge and former NAF arbitrator, Richard Neely (PDF link, p. 12):

“Thus I learned how Godless bloodsucking banks have converted apparently neutral arbitration forums into collection agencies to exact the last drop of blood from desperate consumers.”

And from me:

“The system is designed to be friendly to those who know how to navigate it. For the rest, it is an impenetrable thicket of incomprehensible rules and regulations not for the faint of heart. Or for those hoping to prevail on their claims.”
